Blue John was given its name by the French. Much of it was
exported during the 1700's and they named it 'bleu-jaune'- blue-yellow.
There used to be a lot with the purple, yellow and white stripes
but very little exists now.

- You should not get Blue John wet.
- Do not use silver dip to clean it.
- If the stone is cracked or badly scratched it cannot be
easily repaired - it is better to replace the stone.
- It is difficult, but not impossible, to transfer a stone
from one mount to another mount. We would have to look at
it before making a decision.
- It can crack easily under duress or heat.
- Blue John can be set in gold.
- Many of our Blue John items can also be made in other stones
like Jade, Turquoise or Mother of Pearl.
